UPcycle Lab

Building construction is responsible for approximately 40% primary energy consumption, 26% material use and 35% waste production. By harvesting materials from buildings that would otherwise have been demolished, the use of energy, materials and waste will be reduced significantly.

At the moment ready-to-use circular building products are hard to obtain and suffer from the stigma of being inferior to products made of virgin materials.

Upcycle Lab will bend this stigma to a positive view on a circular future with honest products, by developing upcycled building products that are both strong, aesthetic and on order.

This research that spans the field between Circular Building, Urban Mining, Digital Manufacturing and Vision in Product Design will provide fresh insights at different scales. It will redefine the way consumers relate to waste and can turn upcycling into an exciting new discipline.
